Wow, thanks. That is good information. That actually clears up a lot of the mysteries that surround this article. We have been following these headlines and many people are still scratching their heads about this. But that explanation makes perfect sense.

Sappers (bomb defusers) often shoot potential bombs at a safe distance instead of defusing them in case they have a strange type of explosive they can't undo otherwise. One of the standard checks in the border crossing is an explosive residue test which can be set off by many things, not only explosive residue. Her laptop probably came up positive which is why this happened. Sad story, yes, but it could happen everywhere including in the United States.
